A Happy Place
At BHC, we constantly participate in and create opportunities for happiness. Events and activities that bring a smile on our patients faces mean the world to us.
Here are some of our most recent examples of creative art and activities created by our patients, following DBT principles and therapeutic unit based programming.
Mr. Softee Ice Cream
Our “Mr Softee Ice Cream" event was a hit with the youth. With parental consent, patients enjoyed a supervised outdoor experience by ordering from an ice-cream truck (on our grounds). Music, ice cream art and air. Indeed a Happy Place.
Masks to the Soul
This directive involves exploring the inner self to discover what makes one strong and resilient.
Open Studio
In support of the LGBTQ community, this directive encourages patients to self-express and self-validate as well as motivate and educate others.
The Coping Skills Tool Box
This directive helps to identify healthy coping skills that can be utilized during times of stress and anxiety.
Music That Heals
Our link with Covid-19 Food Programs, facilitated our participation in live virtual concerts of “Music that Heals” by musicians and actors that are known to patients and staff. We received positive feedback and our recipients were able to enjoy and relax in a safe viewing space.
Feelings Bird Houses
The "Feelings Bird Houses” is a birdhouse built, painted and filled with patients expressions of health and well being and are hung on the trees to symbolize the ability to “soar through the wind."
The FISH Scene
The FISH scene is a “magic sensory color” smell, touch, feel directive for Dementia patients to create scenes and express emotions through art.
The Heart Maps
Creating heart maps helps patients identify their role in societal groups by indicating what is in their heart by using words or images.
Holding On, Letting Go Balloons
One balloon signifies what you want to hold on to in life and the other balloon signifies what you want to let go of. This allows patients to gain insight into goals, coping skills, peer support and identifying issues that block their ability to move forward.
Worry Dolls
We offer our patients a multicultural experience via the Worry Dolls. This directive helps patients work through their worries, resulting in healthier ways of coping with their mental health.
Building Bridges
This directive was designed to help patients learn how to build connections, encourage teamwork, assign group roles, plan and problem solve.
